About Me

My name is (as i'm sure you already know from it being plastered everywhere on this site) Noah Simcox! I am a singer/songwriter, composer, and self-proclaimed music theorist! I've released a variety of songs on topics ranging from solar disasters, to ancient dinosaurs, and even strange shapes! I also have several soundtracks for video games, animation, and film under my belt. My inspiration draws from...pretty much every music genre there is, though I'm particularly fond of Smash Mouth, Weezer, The Beatles, My Chemical Romance, Tally Hall, Lemon Demon, Will Wood, and every single Nintendo OST ever..!

I've had an interest in music since I was in like 4th grade. Then, I was infatuated with 80's and 90's video game music, and 8bit remixes of popular music. Thus, I tried my hand at making my own crappy midi songs using a free web tool called Jummbox. Most of these songs are (thankfully) lost to time, but a few still persist. They're actually better than I remember, especially since at this point I didn't even have a clue what a "music theory" was; I just remember using the built-in scale and key options and just throwing down random notes until something stuck.

In sixth grade, I joined my Middle School's orchestra and learned my first instrument: the violin! I actually have a video of our first preformance. If you look closely, you'll see this guy in the back with blonde hair and glasses who's overly showy with his bow lifts. That's me.

For Christmas of 2019 I was gifted a "learning keyboard" by my parents. I didn't really care for it too much until the Thing That Shall Not Be Named occured. With all my newfound free time, I began actually teaching myself how to play. At this point, my music taste had not progressed beyond video game OSTs, so most of what I played was Undertale songs (which I was OBSESSED with at the time) that I learned from watching Synthesia tutorials, which are basically like guitar tabs for piano.

Around 7th grade, I started really getting into classical music. At the time, my favorites were probably Anvil Chorus and The Emporer Waltz. Later in 8th grade I REALLY got into Dimitri Shostakovich's works. I distinctly remember getting in trouble for blasting the finale of his 12th Symphony on my earbuds during quiet reading time. I also remember composing a full-length actual symphony of my own (of course, using Jummbox) that has unforunately been lost to time. Though, I do still have some other suprisingly okay Jummbox tunes I composed around this time. These are inspired by Street Fighter II themes:

In 9th grade, I finally bit the bullet and taught myself music theory. I started with this video by Andrew Huang, and then spent a lot of time practicing and reading Wikipedia articles. Around this time, I started making my first pieces of music that I would consider "good" today; I started as the composer for a New Super Mario Bros. DS rom hack called "Extra Super Mario Bros."Armed with my new knowledge of music theory, I composed such creatively titled works as "Desert" and "Title."

2023, halfway through 9th grade, is when I would say my professional music career began. Gone were the days of tinkering around with midi files and composing masterpieces on web tools. For the longest time I had wanted to write an "actual" song that would be on Spotify, Youtube Music, etc. The inspiration to finally write this "actual song" came from the bands Tally Hall and Lemon Demon, who randomly appeared in my Youtube reccomended one summer day in 2022. Thus, after months of work, and $$$ spent buying a copy of FL Studio, on February 24th, 2023, I released Tetradecahedron. Though I remember hating it at the time, I am very proud of it today!!!

Since then, I've also released Surface of the Sun, my debut album, and I've begun learning how to play the guitar! Who knows what's next?! I guess this About Me page will keep getting longer and longer with time :)
